Summary:

"In the KOALA project (Building Consortium Open Access Solutions) [Konsortiale Open-Access-Lösungen aufbauen], consortium solutions for financing Open Access were established. The collaborative funding of Open Access journals and book series by academic libraries represents an alternative to the dominant APC model, in which articles are paid for individually by authors or their institutions. During the project period, the TIB together with the Communication, Information, Media Center (KIM) of the University of Konstanzestablished two corresponding consortia as financing partners for Open Access periodicals. In this context, further analyzes were carried out and the transition from periodicals to open access was accompanied. In addition, a contact point was created for publishers who need support with the open access switch or with the search for sustainable financing. The infrastructure created by KOALA enables fair and sustainable financing of quality-assured Open Access publications. It helps to remove financial hurdles for authors and thus facilitate participation in Open Access publications."
