"Among the possible strategies that faculty can pursue to extend public access to work and even the playing field with corporate interests that control copyright, the most significant are publishing in open-access journals and participating in university institutional repositories (IRs). The open-access (OA) movement has been building for about two decades, but has expanded dramatically in the past 5 years or so....Faculty have to assert their rights to pursue their research despite corporate attempts to shut them down.
