The Advent of Mandatory Data Archiving

Connotea Imports 2012-07-31

Summary:

At Evolution (published by Wiley) the open data archiving policy adopted in the spring of 2010 will become mandatory for all articles submitted after January 1, 2011. From the new policy: "As a condition for publication, Evolution requires that data used in the paper are archived. DNA sequence data must be submitted to GenBank and phylogenetic data to TreeBASE. Other types of data must be deposited in an appropriate public archive such as Dryad, the NCEAS Data Repository or as supplementary online material associated with the paper published in Evolution....Authors may elect to have the data publicly available at time of publication, or, if the technology of the archive allows, may opt to embargo access to the data for a period up to a year after publication. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the editor, especially for sensitive information such as the location of endangered species...."
