Connotea Imports 2012-07-31

Summary:

Published as a book chapter in 2007; self-archived this month. In German with this English-language abstract: "Open Access Publishing aims at providing free access to scholarly journals in the Internet. Since the turn of the millennium, scientists, non-profit publishers, politicians, international organizations, and last but not least librarians have supported this alternative publishing model. This paper outlines the participation in open access initiatives and projects in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In order to assess the acceptance of this publishing model in these countries, the following criteria have been analysed: participation in calls for boycott and change, editing of and publishing in open access journals (e.g., PLos and BioMed Central), self archiving, and the building up of institutional repositories."
