Ideas for tools for helping with Open Access publication – University of Leicester

"I find tools from SHERPA useful. I like to keep an eye on what I’d ideally like as well as what is currently available both for me and people I work with. In tools to help with Open Access publishing: For researchers: A clear choice between contractual choices for a journal, with a small number of standard (e.g. Creative Commons) copyright choices and embargo periods for each. As a UK researcher, all options need to be HEFCE compliant and for funded researchers, the choice should be clear between choices that are RCUK etc. compliant AND HEFCE compliant. This allows researchers to navigate the Venn diagram constraining their options. For us in research support / repositories: Tell us: [1] What rights statement we need to put in our metadata (usually a statement of journal of record) [2] What embargo we need, if any [3] What copyright statement we put. Ideally in both human and machine readable form, from a small number of possible standard (e.g. Creative Commons) copyright choices so our repositories can auto-fill fields. [4] Ideally SHERPA FACT would keep a persistent and trustworthy archive of the contractual situation at any date for journals etc. so we can refer back to the choices we made."
