"University College London accounted for nearly half of the total amount spent by 22 UK institutions on open access in 2014, according to data published by Jisc. The university spent £4.1 million on 2,912 article processing charges to make its academics’ publications freely available in fully open-access journals or journals that offer an open-access option. The data, published on 11 February, include details of APCs paid by 22 universities last year. The institutions spent a total of £8.9m on more than 6,000 charges. Imperial College London spent £1m on 549 charges, and the University of Birmingham spent £500,000 on 362. Other institutions that submitted their data to Jisc, the UK's higher education ICT agency, include Bangor University and the Universities of Bristol, Glasgow, Sheffield and Sussex. The costliest journal to publish in was Nature Communications, to which the University of Warwick paid a £7,278 fee ..."
