Summary:

On December 11th 2015 the Academic Council approved an Open Access (OA) policy for Dundalk Institute of Technology. The new policy is intended to make DkIT’s research output, in the form of published scholarly articles and conference proceedings, available to a wider public. The results of research funded by major funding bodies are often required to be made available to the public within a limited timeframe. The new DkIT OA Policy strongly recommends that academic staff and researchers deposit their published work in STÓR, the online open access research repository of items authored or co-authored by DkIT researchers and staff. STÓR is managed by the Library and in addition to showcasing the work of DkIT researchers it provides a sustainable platform for storage and preservation of the Institute’s research output. Open access to the results of research enhances the visibility and the impact of the work, the author and the organisation. By providing free access to research output to policy makers and practitioners, Open Access can enhance informed decision making, inspire self-organized learning and facilitate solutions to the many complex issues the world is currently facing.
