Henrike Lähnemann (Oxford) opens the 2017 Women in German Studies conference ‚Reform and Revolt‘ with a paper on the concept of ‚reformation‘ with a case study on the convent of Medingen, their reformation in 1479, struggle with the Duke over the protestant Reformation 1524-1554, the Lutheran interpretation of this struggle in the 18th century, and the 1934 popular play ‚Der Nonnenkrieg von Medingen‘ by Theodore von Rommel. Final thoughts are combined with a look at the case of Argula von Grumbach.
