In a recent survey commissioned by Variety, teenagers were asked which celebrities they found most influential. The top five were all YouTube personalities.
Seventeen, the country's longest-lived teen magazine, appears to have gotten the memo: the October issue is YouTube-themed, with star Bethany Mota on the cover. Mota, who is 18, has over 7 million subscribers to her channel Macbarbie07, and makes primarily style and beauty-related videos.
Magazines aren't alone in harnessing the influence of YouTubers in an effort to stay relevant — Mota also has a line with Aeropostale, the teen retailer which has struggled in recent years.
The issue also features a number of other YouTube stars, and includes this choice coverline: "HAVE FUN, MAKE $$$."
