Australian Prime Minister Abbott to intervene after new security measures that put niqab and burqa wearers behind glass.

The Prime Minister is set to kill off controversial new rules that would have seen women wearing burqas and niqabs put behind glass at Parliament House.

Mr Abbott is reportedly going to push back against yesterday's decision from the Speaker and the Senate President that would force those wearing "facial coverings" into enclosed rooms with schoolchildren to view proceedings.

A spokeswoman for the Prime Minister's office would not comment on the mounting speculation, but insisted that a press release would be issued with Mr Abbott's plans.
