Abstract: "This is a white paper submi�ed as part of the joint NIH/NSF-funded event,“ImaginingTomorrow’s University: Rethinking scholarship, education, and institutions for an open, networkedera”, to be held March 8th and 9th in Rosemont, IL. The goal of this paper is to outline thepotential for open scholarship to improve university research and education,  as well asincrease the impact universities can have beyond their own walls. I present evidence from casestudies, published literature, and personal experiences as a practicing open scientist. I outlinerecommendations on how universities can support open research, including skills trainingand reform of promotion and tenure evaluations.1"
