Summary:

"This position will be the driving force in the University’s open textbook initiative. This person will work with individual faculty and departments looking for opportunities to adopt open access textbooks across the curriculum with priority on general education courses. Will track adoptions, effect on student learning, and fiscal savings for students.

This position is a four-year term, non-tenure track appointment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops and manages the University initiative in adopting existing institutional resources and open education resources (EIR/OER) across the curriculum in any media.

a. Promotes EIR/OER within the University curricula

i. works with departments to address concerns about EIR/OER availability and quality

ii. works with deans and chairs individually to identify and implement the integration and expansion of EIR/OER adoptions in targeted courses

iii. initiates and maintains professional acquaintances with departments chairs and with faculty individually

iv. identifies suitable EIR/OER materials for faculty consideration in individual courses

v. encourages faculty in course- and assignment-related involvement with research instruction, helping faculty structure sound student assignments to foster both subject learning and transferrable research skills in relevant data resources

vi. advises faculty adopting EIR/OER on developing assignments that encourage research skill-development vii. works with faculty individually to develop assignments and resources that are not textbook dependent (ancillary resources)

b. Works with Institutional Research staff and Assessment Librarian to design, study, and track concerns and use of EIR/OERs among faculty and students, and the effects on student expenditures and learning outcomes

c. Advises faculty, staff, and students in the development and implementation of EIR/OER publishing/dissemination initiatives; coordinate editorial review and production processes for OERs created by SUU faculty.

d. Follows OER efforts at other institutions and in other states for data, implementation strategies, best practices, including training and involvement in the Open Textbook Network

2. Teaches two assigned sections of LM1010, Information Literacy in the ENGL2010/LM1010 co-requisite annually, one during each fall and spring term.

3. Works collegially with other faculty and staff in internal planning and decision-making processes for the library, including leading and participating on one or more work groups.

4. Holds one regular service assignment at the Questions desk weekly (typically two hours).

5. Documents and reports on the EIR/OER initiative.

6. Other duties to sustain and promote the initiative as required and assigned by library administration."
