The Reference and Scholarly Communication Librarian will lead the library's scholarly communication efforts, including directing related assessment activities and providing research instruction for faculty members, library staff members, and students on scholarly communications issues, and provide reference service. This librarian will remain current on scholarly publishing matters and information technologies that affect access and preservation of scholarly information. This librarian will lead efforts to design and deliver systematic and sustainable approaches to scholarly communication outreach. This librarian will engage with the scholarly community both within and outside the university in order to inform, support, and advance the library's scholarly communication programs and goals. This librarian will consult with faculty, staff, and students about publishing choices, understanding publishing agreements, and rights retention, as well as copyright issues. This librarian will perform periodic assessments of the campus environment with regard to scholarly communication issues, develop and maintain research guides to support USI programs, and develop and maintain the library's copyright information page.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent) required.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in academic reference work, including research instruction.
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding scholarly communication, including fair use as it applies to libraries, author rights, open access, archiving rights, and institutional repositories.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty members.
• Proficiency with technology used in an educational or library setting."
