Summary:

English Translation (Google): Mechanisms for the centralization of research data

"Behind open access to research data, what about their hosting? Open access can be exclusive and hosting completely centralized. What does this mean for “open” science, where researchers would use data such as usage statistics as they want? Exclusivity and centralization aren’t compliant with the diversity of content exploitation models, and therefore with innovation. Our paper shows how different social, economic and technical mechanisms, at all levels of the publishing process, foster this centralization even in the spheres most inclined to open access. We will also propose ways to imagine and develop distributed and open data hosting and exploitation solutions, for an open science."
