My Peer’s Reactions to Open Access Scholarship – GRAD 5104

Summary:

"As part of this course that I’m blogging for, we were introduced to the concept of open access publication and the problems it is attempting to solve.

Who knows if the movement will pan out, but I was really surprised to listen to my peer’s reactions on the topic during the in-class discussion. To summarize, a good majority of their comments were of a critical nature and revolved around the lack of promotion or advancement related metrics afforded to open access publications. The phrases “impact factor”, “top journal”, and “tenure” were tossed around a lot.

This left me with a bit of sour impression."
