"The University of Alberta Libraries seeks a highly creative, skilled, team-oriented professional - someone who is excited and ready to help build and support a new library-based digital scholarship centre (DSC). The DSC, centrally located on the second floor of Cameron Library, will provide a range of collaborative work spaces, interesting technologies (including a large data visualization wall), and access to expertise, in order to foster a supportive community for students and faculty from all disciplines who are interested in engaging in digitally-based research and study.

The Head, Digital Scholarship Services will coordinate and support a complex environment of digital scholarship related services as required in the day-to-day operations of the Digital Scholarship Centre. Working closely with an Academic Director of the centre, the position provides leadership in contributing to strategy and the implementation of well-formed plans for all aspects of the operation and assessment of the DSC, including support for a rich program of scheduled workshops, training, and other programming.

The incumbent will ensure effective communication and consistent support for users of DSC services offered by the Libraries. Working with colleagues across campus, the incumbent helps develop new collaborative networks and ensures good communications and relationships with all users of the Libraries’ DSC services. The incumbent is expected to participate in local, regional and national initiatives related to digital scholarship in order to support the evolution of our services and to contribute to the Libraries' goal of improving scholarly communication and support for the research lifecycle.

The position is expected to directly supervise and/or provide guidance to librarians, APOs, support staff, postdoctoral fellows or other staff assigned to roles in the DSC. The position regularly interacts with staff from across the system to develop strategies, coordinate resources and undertake the work involved in operating the DSC. The position reports directly to the Associate University Librarian (Digital Initiatives) and works closely with an Academic Director and other roles to ensure alignment of appropriate resources and priorities to library and university strategies supporting the DSC. The incumbent  may participate in and seek opportunities for professional and scholarly research, including the ability to apply for and hold research funding as a principal applicant.
