Summary:

"We are seeking a fellow who is self-motivated and interested to learn more about scholarly publishing, intellectual property and open education. Candidates should be curious to learn about the changing nature of scholarly publishing as well as best practices and the processes involved in selecting content for William & Mary’s institutional repository, understanding intellectual property, developing workflows and documentation for posting repository content, creating and implementing repository metadata, and providing advocacy and marketing for the institutional repository. Candidates will also learn about open education efforts, such as open educational resources and issues such as textbook affordability. Finally, the incumbent will gain exposure to a variety of scholarly communications topics including data management best practices in addition to those topics already mentioned.

Desired Outcomes:

  1. Candidate will understand the importance of an institutional repository (IR), open access and workflows to contribute to the IR.
  2. Candidate will learn about intellectual property, including copyright, fair use and how to license content.
  3. Candidate will learn about the professional writing process and submit a draft article on institutional repositories, open education or intellectual property for publication in a peer-review journal."
