"The role of Chief Editor is an exciting opportunity to build on the success of BMC Medicine, by growing the audience of the journal and interacting closely with the medical research community to position BMC Medicine as the leading journal in its field. The position is a full-time salaried role based at our offices in either London or New York. As Chief Editor, you will be an ambassador for the journal and BMC through your active engagement with the research community. You will be responsible for peer review and selection of content for publication, for ensuring the journal meets its targets, for steering the journal’s strategy, and for leadership of the in-house editorial team and external editorial board.                  

Specific responsibilities include:        

• Proactively engage with the medical research community as an ambassador for the journal and BMC.
• Lead the team of in house editors.
• Overall responsibility for all editorial decisions and processes
• Ensure the integrity and quality of all content published in the journal.
• Work with the Executive Editor to drive the strategy for BMC Medicine, to attract top-quality content, and to develop the journal’s reputation as an outstanding forum in the field.
• Agree with the Executive Editor editorial targets, team cost budgets, and other KPIs, and ensure that they are met or improved on.
• Foster excellent service to authors.
• Work with other teams to ensure that the journal is published and promoted effectively."
