The goal of this research is to analyze the Open Access Institutional Repositories of IberoAmerican countries, which are registered in the Registry of Open Access Repositories, through the identification of the institutions that maintain repositories, the characterization of the collections, and the description of the documents preservation mechanisms. The methodological procedures used in this research are of a descriptive, exploratory, documental and quantitative nature. Documentation file was used as a data collection tool and the data analysis was done using descriptive statistic techniques. Out of 180 institutional or departmental repositories registered in ROAR in IberoAmerican countries, 87 (48.3%) met the established inclusion criteria: a) repositories with an available website; (b) unique registration; c) institutional repository; d) repositories with the name or the acronym of the institution in the URL, e) repositories with open access; and f) repositories registered until and including 2010. Most of the institutional repositories of Ibero-American countries, 82.7% (72), were created by universities. It is possible to observe that 36.8% (32) have the libraries and documentation and information centers responsible for its management and 83.9% (73) use the Dspace software and have registered more than 119 types of collections, of which 6.7% (8) are scientific publications, 58.6% (51) use the selfarchiving process by authors. In the analisys of the preservation mechanisms, it is noted that 94.2% (82) of the repositories are indexed in PDF format, 90.8% (79) use the persistent identifier service and 47.1% (41) use Creative Commons license."
