"We are looking to hire a Science Policy Officer to continue developing the EGU’s policy programme, which is aimed at building bridges between geoscientists and European policymakers, engaging the EGU membership with public policy, and informing decision makers about the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The officer will be tasked with mapping out policy opportunities for the EGU, setting up links between EGU members and European decision makers, and developing training and networking events for scientists to engage with policy.

The successful applicant will have a University degree (e.g. MA, MSc), preferably in public policy or a geoscience-related discipline, knowledge and experience of European policymaking, particularly in science and research policy. In addition, the ideal candidate will have been involved in facilitating science for policy, including activities that bring researchers and policymakers together, and will have established contacts in Brussels. Candidates should have an expert command of English, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Non-European nationals are eligible to apply, provided they are familiar with the European decision-making system.

The officer will be based at the EGU Executive Office in Munich, Germany, but will spend time in Brussels. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the EGU Media and Communications Manager, the EGU Executive Secretary and the EGU Policy Working Group starting in January or February 2017. Remuneration is according to the German public service pay scale and can be up to E13 TV-L, depending on expertise and experience."
