Summary:

"Last week witnessed one webinar just over an hour in which he explained the advantages of using servers preprintsfor scientific communication. You can watch the presentation on YouTube 1 . However, if you can not dedicate so much time, in this post we tell a little about it in less than 10 minutes. Keep reading.

In academic publishing a preprint is a version of a manuscript before peer review, which certify or not a formal publication in a journal. The preprint is deposited by the corresponding author on a server preprints , usually themed, following public procedures. Version preprint can be a breakthrough or an incomplete version, but the most common is a final version. When using this service, authors establish a precedent, can request comments and add suggestions to the manuscript, which is sent later to the formal editorial process of a journal.  Researchers in physics and mathematics have for over 25 years depositing their research papers on arXiv.org which are included more than 100 thousand manuscripts a year and new areas and disciplines were added to the repository, for example, quantitative biology, statistics and Quantitative finance. Lately, new servers preprints are in operation in other areas or are in the process of launching. The initiative ASAPbio , directed by scientists, is actively promoting the use of preprints in biology. We point out, in alphabetical order, bioRxiv , ChemRxiv , engrXiv , Figshare , F1000Research , PeerJPreprints , PsyArXiv , SocArXiv and SSRN. The important thing is that all these preprints are thoroughly indexed by Google Scholar, which allows them immediate visibility in the community of researchers. The site Open Science Framework also indexes all major server preprints."
