Summary:

"Reporting to the Associate University Librarian: Content Management and Discovery, the Scholarly Communications Librarian will lead in the planning, development, implementation, assessment and promotion of the Library’s scholarly communications services including (but not limited to) the adoptive digital repository (oURspace), open journal publishing services (OJS), and digitization activities. Providing outreach and advice on open access initiatives and open educational resources, the incumbent will work closely with the Copyright Officer, the Research and Scholarship Librarian, the University Archivist, the Library’s Open Access Team, the Institutional Working Group on Open Access and Research Dissemination, and the University of Regina Press to build and maintain awareness on campus of scholarly communication issues, to develop appropriate services to support the campus community on these matters, and to champion open scholarship on campus.  Librarian responsibilities of a more general nature may also be assigned and will take into consideration the Scholarly Communications Librarian’s interests and abilities.

Additional responsibilities to include:

  • Working closely with the Research and Scholarship Librarian to develop and implement a program to increase awareness among faculty, researchers and students about scholarly communication issues, especially in the digital environment;
  • Working closely with the Research and Scholarship Librarian to support university research and researchers through the creation of, deployment of, and participation in open access initiatives;
  • Working in close consultation and cooperation with other library and campus units, including the University Archives and University of Regina Press, on issues and programs related to scholarly communication;
  • Overseeing and leading the development, advancement and maintenance of the open access institutional repository oURspace , ensuring collections are representative of both the University and the broader Saskatchewan context;
  • Providing support for e-journal hosting initiatives at the University of Regina;
  • Advocating for, and supporting, the adoption of open educational resources on campus;
  • Leading development and implementation of educational  programs  for library staff and the campus community on issues of scholarly communication;
  • Developing and maintaining a broad network of partners among faculty, scholars, graduate students, administrators and committees to inform, support and advance the scholarly communication programs and goals of the library and university;
  • Monitoring developments in scholarly communication, open access, institutional repositories, and communicating their implications to library and faculty stakeholders."
