"ORG Institutional Engagement focuses on building partnerships with institutions, through B2B efforts. Our aim is to determine, understand and support the needs of the institution in order to meet customers’ OA needs, drive revenue through institutional accounts, raise ORG and OA brand awareness, and cultivate solid business relationships. Through a customer centric approach, we aim to build products to meet these needs, whilst also working to meet overall business objectives.

Reporting to the ORG Business Operations & Policy Director, the Head of Institutional Engagement is responsible for overall institutional / organisational outreach and operations on behalf of the Open Research Group, Springer Nature. Leading the Institutional Engagement, Institutional Operations and Institutional Marketing teams globally, the overall focus is to build and cultivate strong business relationships, drive APC and non-APC revenue from institutions whilst increasing our brand awareness and promoting open research at an institutional level.

Main Responsibilities: •Develop and execute overall institutional strategy for the Open Research Group, ensuring that it advocates and aligns with the wider-business strategy •Provide strategic direction, team coordination, staff development and management support for Institutional Engagement, Operations and Marketing staff: ◦Ensure strategy and vision is clearly defined and understood ◦Direct and oversee regional engagement, operations and marketing plans, and ensure their alignment with overall business strategy(s) ◦Support, motivate and coach staff at a team and individual level ◦Develop training and development plan in coordination with HR ◦Ensure performance reviews are carried out for all team staff ◦Manage overseas staff effectively ◦Advise on overall salaries – recruit new staff as necessary within headcount budget ◦Manage T&E budget

•Ensure effective communication of market intel to wider Institutional Engagement dept., as well as other relevant ORG-wide teams, in order to build strategy and products to meet changing market requirements •Develop and oversee execution of global institutional Marketing plan •Oversee effective and mutually-beneficial management of institutional / organisational relationships •Based on market needs and in agreement with the Director of Business Operations and Policy, lead the development and build of institutional focused products •Ensure sales, revenue and profitability targets are met globally by: ◦Preparing and implementing annual budgets in line with the overall plan ◦Produce sales and highlight reports ◦Prepare and manage cost budgets , i.e. T&E, Marketing

•Work in conjunction with departments such as Comms., author focused Marketing, publishing and higher level management team as well as other business groups within Springer Nature to optimize business potential •Build partnerships with major global organisations and institutions at high level to develop global and regional business •Present to major international and localised audiences •Maintain strong current knowledge of the open research, scholarly communications and STM publishing landscape"
