Summary:

"An experts meeting to share knowledge between Open Access experts and to explore two possible future projects, an Open Access World Network and for Wikimedia to be included in UNESCO Open Access professional development courses.

The meeting will contribute to the implementation of the UNESCO Open Access strategy and will provide an opportunity to discuss with Key Wikipedia focal points in Europe and North America on how free and unrestricted access to research and scholarly communication can increase the impact of research, and benefit cultural and research institutions, authors, and journal publishers.

The main objectives of this meeting are to:

1. Strengthen understanding of projects of cultural organization working with open access;

2. Provide an opportunity to discuss the possibility of cooperation with UNESCO including an open access world network and open access professional development modules for different professional groups; and

3. Develop partnerships among interested stakeholders as an enabling mechanism to share content through Open Access.

UNESCO promotes the adoption of open access (also known as open licensing) by organizations. To support this, UNESCO is exploring the possibility of creating guidance for organizations on how to move from an organization with no open access content to an organization who makes content available under open access which is reused effectively and widely."
