Summary:

"KU Libraries’ Shulenburger Office of Scholarly Communication & Copyright is partnering with the Center for Teaching Excellence to host Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani in honor of Open Education Week. Dr. Jhangiani will present a keynote titled, “Serving Social Justice and Pedagogical Innovation Through Open Educational Practices” from 10-11:30 a.m. on March 30 in the Commons at Spooner Hall.

Dr. Jhangiani, the university teaching fellow in open studies and a psychology instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Vancouver, Canada, serves as the senior open education advocacy and research fellow with BCcampus, an associate editor of Psychology Learning and Teaching and a faculty workshop facilitator with the Open Textbook Network.

In his keynote, Dr. Jhangiani will discuss open educational practices, including the adoption and creation of open educational resources, as pathways for student empowerment as co-creators of knowledge. This presentation will make a case for why the shift away from traditional, closed practices is not only desirable but inevitable, and how open educational practices support the modern university’s mission by serving both social justice and pedagogical innovation.

The event is free and open to the public. Find out more about KU Libraries’ commitment to open educational resources on their webpage."
