"In response to feedback from the Open Access Practitioner’s Group we have made some changes to the payment frequency of RCUK open access block grants.
From June 2017 open access block grants will be provided to applicable organisations in six monthly payments.
Organisations which are eligible to receive block grants will receive notification by 30th April 2017 with full details of values and future payment dates. Further information has also been sent to all open access contacts in receipt of RCUK open access block grants so they know how the changes will impact on them.
In 2013, the first block grants were issued by RCUK to research organisations that were in receipt of research council funding, to enable them to comply with the RCUK policy on open access. The amount of funding reflects the amount of labour included in current research council grants and the average Article Processing Charge (APC) which contribute the main cost of complying with the policy.
