"The University of Lethbridge Library seeks an energetic, student-focused, innovative, technology-savvy, and creative professional librarian to fill an Initial Probationary Appointment (tenure-track) at the rank of Librarian II or III, depending on experience and qualifications. This appointment will commence on July 1, 2017, subject to budgetary approval and may be an appointment with tenure, again depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

As one of Alberta’s four comprehensive academic and research institutions, the University of Lethbridge offers a broad array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Library advances the University’s strategic direction to excel as a comprehensive university through instruction, research support, collection development and community engagement programs that situate the Library as a vital research resource for all members of the University community. Joining the Library’s professional team will present the successful candidate with opportunities for professional growth in a wide range of possible assignments.

Reporting to the University Librarian and working collaboratively with colleagues, the successful candidate will serve as the Library’s Instruction and Information Literacy Coordinator, performing in addition a variety of professional librarian activities in areas such as instruction, reference services, research support, subject area liaison in collection management and instruction, outreach, collection development, scholarly communication, and operations management. The Library Academic Plan has a special focus on information literacy, as this links to Liberal Education at the University. Our team-based approach to instructional delivery necessitates some flexibility in the role.

This position will appeal to a librarian interested in playing a significant role in the continued development of the Library’s strong information literacy program which advances the University’s goal of providing high quality student learning experiences. Developed over many years, this program is delivered by librarians in a variety of modes including library science credit courses, information literacy sessions embedded within other subject-specific courses, synchronous and asynchronous online sessions, as well as a workshop-style instructional modality. The successful candidate is expected to play a leadership role in the development, assessment and delivery of the Library’s instructional program, and cognate services or initiatives in information literacy more generally.
