"Fellow in Open Access & Education Initiatives/Assistant Professor of Library Media

This position will be the driving force in the University’s open textbook initiative. Will work with individual faculty and departments looking for opportunities to adopt open access textbooks across the curriculum with priority on general education courses. Will track adoptions, effect on student learning, and fiscal savings for students.

 

This position is a four-year term, non-tenure track appointment.

1. Promotes, develops and manages the University initiative in adopting existing institutional resources and open education resources (EIR/OER) across the curriculum in any media. a. Works with departments and faculty to address concerns about EIR/OER, identify suitable EIR/OER materials for faculty consideration, and identify and implement EIR/OER adoptions in targeted courses. b. Helps faculty develop assignments to develop research skills, and coordinates with Instruction Librarians to teach those skills.  c. Coordinates initiative activity with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, bookstore, and initiative personnel. 2. Works with Institutional Research staff and Assessment Librarian to design, study, and track concerns and use of EIR/OERs among faculty and students, and the effects on student expenditures and learning outcomes; documents and reports on the EIR/OER initiative. 3. Advises faculty, staff, and students in the development and implementation of EIR/OER publishing/dissemination initiatives; coordinate editorial review and production processes for OERs created by SUU faculty. 4. Follows OER efforts at other institutions and in other states for data, implementation strategies, best practices, including training and involvement in the Open Textbook Network. 5. Teaches two assigned sections of LM1010, Information Literacy in either the ENGL2010/ LM1010 co-requisite or as stand-alone sections, one during each fall and spring term. 6. Works collegially with other faculty and staff individually and on committees. 7. Staffs the Questions desk as assigned. 8. Other duties to sustain and promote the initiative as required and assigned by library administration."
