Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Library and Information Services invites applications from dynamic, proactive, and service-oriented candidates for the position of Scholarly Communication Librarian.  The Scholarly Communication Librarian is a member of the Digital Initiatives and Technologies department and reports to the Director who in turn reports to the Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS).  As a member of the Library faculty, the successful candidate will be an energetic, creative librarian who supports the needs of scholarly communication and digital scholarship. Depending upon the background of the candidate, she or he will serve as a subject liaison librarian to one or more programs or departments, selecting materials and providing services to support the research and teaching of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students in said areas.  The Library is transitioning to a team-based approach integrating technology through all aspects of the delivery of library services. The Scholarly Communication Librarian’s primary responsibility is to educate faculty and students regarding traditional scholarship and scholarly communication innovations, including open access, open educational resources (OERs), intellectual property rights and copyright, publishing agreements, and compliance. As a team member, the Scholarly Communication Librarian works collaboratively with all LIS faculty.  This individual will articulate and promote the importance of contributing an individual’s scholarship to the SIUE Scholarly Publications and Repository of Knowledge (SPARK). The Scholarly Communication Librarian instructs faculty members about assessing the scholarly impact of their research and scholarship through the use of journal, author, citation, and alternative metrics.  Primary Responsibilities:  The Scholarly Communication Librarian serves as the primary spokesperson for scholarly communication innovations and as a resource person in rights management. The Librarian:  • Leads in the promotion and use of open access initiatives including OERs and current and emerging publishing practices  • Provides instruction and reference assistance regarding scholarly communication, intellectual property rights and copyright  • Initiates and supports ongoing scholarly communication education and outreach  • Serves as a subject liaison librarian to one or more programs  • Participates in reference services  • Identifies and participates in writing grant proposals "
