Summary:

"The Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section (SOCRS) invites colleagues to submit proposals for its two-hour open session at the IFLA Congress in Columbus on the theme 'The Role of Stakeholders in the New Serials World.'

The roles, activities and responsibilities of stakeholders in the serials information chain have changed, evolved and been enriched in the digital environment. Highly dynamic content is delivered through a myriad of digital methods with far less emphasis on print. Those engaged with serials and other continuing resources are involved with e-books, alternative publishing models including open access, various metrics like altmetrics, government mandates, hosting services, discovery services, data and text mining, linked data, preservation in offsite storage facilities, clouds, data, library publishing, repositories, interlibrary loan and new budget issues, Connections, collaborations and communities have shifted.  This session will include a panel discussion along with papers on current and future roles of various stakeholders such as librarians, publishers, vendors and agents.  What are or should be the functions of participants in the new serials sphere?  Or, are there new stakeholders in the ecosystem to consider and what are their roles?

We invite papers that address any or several of the following topics:

  • Open Access
  • Metrics
  • Assessment
  • Libraries as publishers
  • Non-traditional publishing
  • Institutional repositories
  • Mobile access, carriers and platforms
  • Linked data
  • Text and data mining
  • New roles for serials professionals
  • Description and discovery
  • New acquisitions models"
