Summary:
"As a member of the Enterprise Solutions Services team, the successful student will be involved in supporting a move toward analysis and interpretation of data for the Open Data Unit in the Information & Technology Division, assisting and contributing in the development and demonstration of application opportunities (e.g. sample apps, data visualization) using available data on the City's Open Data portal (toronto.ca/open).
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists, contributes in the development and utilization of processes and tools to identify and produce open data from corporate information systems.
- Assists in assessing current state of City's Open Data inventory and portal.
- Participates in discussion on standards for data presentations for the City's Open Data portal
- Participates in Open Data community events (e.g. Civic Tech TO, hackathons)
- Assists in educating staff in understanding and communicating Open Data needs and processes to user/developer
- Assists with web design and maintenance.
- Collects data for others to analyze.
- Assists with organizing and presenting data collected.
- Assists others with drafting documents.
- Documents/maintains/inputs/updates data.
- Researches faults/problems for others to analyze/process.
- Assists with simple programming.
- Answers calls, takes messages and directs inquiries to appropriate staff to answer questions/handle requests.
- Travels to various locations and participate in special events, shows or meetings."
