Republic of Mauritius- Open data to drive digital transformation, says Minister Sawmynaden

"Government wants Open data to drive digital transformation by powering innovation in all sectors of the economy with the creation of new products and services, in the wake of data revolution.

This statement was made by the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, at the opening of a two-day workshop on Open data portal this morning at Cyber Tower 1 in Ebène.
 
An initiative of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation in collaboration with the World Bank, the workshop aims amongst others to build capacity and skills in the use and analysis of Open data to identify opportunities and trends. It will also equip individuals with the right tools to contribute in the vision of Government to unleash the potential of Open data.
 
Minister Sawmynaden highlighted that Open data are non-personal data which can be used, re-used and redistributed freely and when released provide an array of opportunities for the community.
 
Through the Open data portal, the Minister further underlined that Government aims to fully exploit the potential of Open data to give opportunities to youngsters to develop applications around the Open datasets which will be released by Government.
 
On this score, he pointed out that datasets have already been identified and that these datasets will help to develop applications in sectors like health, climate change and road traffic amongst others."
