Summary:

"Many thanks to everyone who participated in the recent open access publishing surveys at UCD. The surveys were designed and coordinated by the UCD Library Open Science Group and the  URMAN Open Access Group.

The purpose of the surveys was to identify the levels of awareness amongst researchers, and those who support researchers, of the various open access channels, including UCD’s open access repository: Researchrepository.ucd.ie. It looked for suggestions on how to increase awareness of the various channels, including Research Repository UCD.

Some of the headline results include:

  • 50% of researchers would like a more user-friendly Research Repository UCD system (we hope to address this through a planned upgrade of the system over the next few months)
  • 73% of research managers/administrators and 42% of researchers believe inclusion in UCD’s OBRSS would result in an increase of uploads to Research Repository UCD
  • 69% of researchers had been approached to publish in an open access publication where they were unsure of the credentials of the publisher
