"The California State University, Los Angeles University Library seeks an innovative and self-motivated librarian for the position of Collection Strategies & Scholarly Communications Librarian. The librarian will provide leadership for the management, development and assessment of the library’s collections, including the planning and implementation of the library’s institutional repository.  The incumbent will bring a forward-thinking, innovative and strategic perspective in the library’s approach to collection development that is both learner-centered and responsive to the University’s curriculum. The librarian will lead and coordinate outreach efforts to raise awareness and educate the University on trends and issues in the areas of scholarly communication, open access, open education resources, copyright, and fair use. The librarian will exercise broad independent judgement under the general direction of the Associate Dean, and with guidance from the Dean.

Responsibilities include:

Collections Strategies:

  • Provide overall coordination for the library’s collection development program, including the development and administration of the library’s collection budget, the review and maintenance of library collections and the development of collection policies and procedures;
  • Collaborate with library personnel to facilitate the assessment, promotion and management of the library collections;
  • Evaluate and coordinate Cal State LA’s participation in resource sharing, collaborative collection development, shared print/media resources in consortial programs;
  • Serve as the administrator for the University Library’s institutional repository;
  • Coordinate the University Library’s gift materials program, which may include reviewing and processing donations of materials.

 

Scholarly Communications:

  • Collaborate with Liaison Librarians to develop and implement programs to increase awareness among faculty and students about scholarly communication issues, copyright, open access and open education resources;
  • Advise faculty and serve as library resource on copyright compliance issues related to e-reserves, fair use, and open access;
  • Consult with and advise Cal State LA faculty on publishing agreements and author’s right;
  • Monitor copyright and intellectual property trends and policy issues;
  • Collaborate with key library personnel and campus stakeholders to provide support for digital scholarship initiatives;
  • Be active professionally and contribute to the developments in the field, especially in groups such as SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition)."
