Summary:

"Laura Valdiviezo, associate professor of teacher education and curriculum studies and editor of Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Bjorn Nordtveit, associate professor of educational policy, research and administration and editor of Comparative Education Review, attended the American Educational Research Association’s Data Sharing and Research Transparency Workshop held July 25-27 in Washington, D.C.

Supported by the National Science Foundation, the workshop was a collaborative initiative involving more than 60 journal editors, early career scholars, research association leaders, invited experts and federal officials gathered to discuss issues in data sharing and advancing scientific knowledge. Emphasis was placed on dialogue on emerging areas of open science and research transparency including why researchers should share data; how data archives serve as mediators of open data sharing, and the role of replication research and reproducibility.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants adopted a resolution that affirmed their commitment to transparent reporting of research, responsible sharing and use of data, and the value of diverse contexts, methods and modes of inquiry to advance education knowledge and serve the public good."
