Digital Collections Management Librarian | Texas A&M University Libraries

"The Digital Collections Management Librarian is responsible to contribute in the technical development of components of the University Libraries’ emergent digital asset management ecosystem (DAME), including an existing DSpace institutional repository and a Fedora repository, currently under development. In addition, this position will also contribute to the design, implementation, and assessment of the coordinated set of services, standards, policies, and workflows that support digital collections development.

General Duties:

• Partner with key stakeholder groups within the Libraries and across campus in developing the University’s digital collections management, curation, and preservation strategies
• Engage with the Libraries’ metadata efforts to improve discoverability and metadata quality for repository objects
• Collaborates with librarians across the Libraries in developing digital collection services and workflows
• Assist new content providers in setting up and managing communities, collections, workflows, templates and authorizations; collaborate with other library staff on implementing and improving methods for metadata creation and enhancement; develop policies and procedures governing the submission of content for digital publication to the repositories
• Provide usage data to assess the impact, functionality, and effectiveness of the DAME
• Provide training and develop documentation to share with library staff and campus constituents about the functions and features of the DAME as well as best practices in digital collection management
• Collaborate with Digital Initiatives, the Libraries’ management team, and other key stakeholder groups within the library and across the university in developing the university's digital collection strategy to support transformative scholarship
• Keep abreast of the functions and features of Fedora/Hydra/Blacklight technology stack and DSpace that accommodate new scholarly communications initiatives; serve as the primary contact with the Fedora development community, and participate in community-wide discussions and decisions impacting the Texas A&M repositories; keep abreast of current trends and emerging issues regarding copyright, metadata schemes, open access (OA) and scholarly communication as they relate to digital collections
• Support Office of Scholarly Communications' (OSC) missions: participate in OSC's special project/functions such as OA week; promote library's OA initiatives such as OAKFUND, PeerJ etc.; create relevant procedures to support retention of OSC's organizational knowledge
• Collaborate with library staff, especially subject librarians, to provide and promote the DAME and related services
• Contribute to open source communities seeking to develop and expand repository functionality
• Participate in library and university service activities, including membership on committees, task forces, etc., related to professional assignment or as appropriate
• Engage in research, publication, and professional service as required of tenure track/tenured faculty
• Undertake special assignments as needed"
