Summary:

"Gerald Hanley, assistant vice chancellor for academic technology services at California State University, will present "COOL Collaborations in California – The California Open Online Library and Open Educational Resources Ready for YOU!"Hanley will demonstrate the free etextbook resources and services freely available to University of the Pacific faculty and students and how to incorporate these multimedia resources into teaching and learning.

The high cost of course materials is a significant barrier to many students graduating in a timely manner and succeeding academically, with over 47% of the students taking fewer units per semester due to the cost of textbooks. The California State Universities, in collaboration with the California Community Colleges and the Universities of California, launched the California Open Online Library for Education, an online library of free and open etextbooks aligned with 50 high enrollment courses that are articulated across the three systems.

These free etextbooks are available to all University of the Pacific faculty and students, along with the almost 80,000 free and open educational resources available in MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, www.merlot.org)."
