[SPOILERS] so I read Wuthering Heights and... it's awful

I don't give a damn if this post gets downvoted into oblivion. The book just sucked. It especially turns to crap when (Spoiler ahead) the story fast forwards 13 years after Catherine's death. It wasnt great before that point but it had engaging elements in its first half.

And to think that it's been recommended to me so much... I honestly can't fathom how anyone can think this book is good. My god.

The characters are downright awful. Especially Heathchliff who never fails to make my blood boil. The story is a massive bore.

You learn about how Linton and Catherine's (the second generation) love story would play out WHILE YOU'RE ON THE FIRST CHAPTER OF THE 10 CHAPTERS SUBPLOT. Where is any discovery in that? (please don't come at me with a hackneyed line it's not about the destination its about the journey. Well the journey is awful as well in this context)

And before you accuse me of being some kind of a yokel who can't appreciate "high" art such as this. Know that before this book I read Jane Eyre and I found to it be great actually. To be clear it had its flaws but compared to this piece of crap that book was a masterpiece.

Don't read this book. Take me advise and expunge it from your to-read list if it's there.

Edit: okay so this book's fans are jumping on this one line I wrote and have misconstrued what I meant. Its not just that the characters of this book are awful. I am fine with reading about awful people (and I know they're purposefully written awful). My problem is that that those bad characters are built atop a story structure that's boring, dragged and predictable. In other words, you feel enraged at these people, you say to yourself "okay these people are toxic but I hope it goes someplace interesting. Maybe the author does something mind blowing with them eventually" but it doesn't go that place. And by the end you're only left feeling enraged.
