So, what do you do? | The Open Ed Librarian

Summary:

"As I manically reorganized my home after being away at the OpenEd 17 conference all week, I was inspired by a friend to post about what it is that I do and what the Open Education Movement is all about. I was asked by quite a few people at the conference how long I’ve been involved with Open Educational Resources (OER) and what it is I do exactly and I’ve realized that I can’t keep telling people, “I work with faculty instead of students” after phrases like “OER Librarian,” “Creative Commons,” and “open education” leaves them with a perma-puzzled look on their face. I’ve  been inspired to embrace what I do and admit that I do it well (stay humble!).

I have one of those jobs that my mom and dad are not entirely sure what I do, but they know I love it so they don’t mind. When asked by friends, cashiers, relatives, and the old guy that does my taxes what I do for a living, I simply say “I’m a librarian” when I would love to say “I dove face first into a movement earlier this year that is going to change the world.” But…this is me in most conversations:"
