Summary:

From Google's English:

"Since its founding in 1899, the phonogram archive has been a keystone of Austrian researchers from primarily cultural and humanities disciplines as the guardian of audio-visual heritage from all over the world.

Not only adequate preservation and technical availability are basic prerequisites for a scientifically justifiable gain in knowledge from the research data collected and disparate in content over almost 120 years. The value of each recording or series or collection requires specific knowledge and methods that make their evaluation possible. Source criticism and interpretation therefore play a central role in the phonogram archive when employees deal with the development, documentation, analysis and ultimately the dissemination of scientific results from their occupation with the collections."
