The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with interactive science activities, talks and lectures, and side events, and invites everyone to join Austria’s biggest open air science event during the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 8-12 September 2018 at Maria-Theresien-Platz in Vienna.

The “BE OPEN Festival” will be held under the patronage of Austrian Federal President Van der Bellen.

The main purpose of the festival is to engage in an open dialogue with the general public, the scientific community, and key decision makers at national and European level with regard to the key role of basic research for societal development.

Within the framework of a special closing event on 12 September 2018, FWF will confer the START & Wittgenstein Awards.
