Summary:

(Brussels, 17 December 2018)

On 12 December the European Parliament (EP) approved the compromise amendments for Horizon Europe as decided by its Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) committee. Two weeks before, on 30 November, the research Ministers also agreed on a Partial General Approach on the Horizon Europe Regulation.

In view of the upcoming trilogues between the three European institutions, Science Europe invites all parties to consider a series of elements to further improve this legislative package. The budget of €120bn (in 2018 prices) proposed by the EP for Horizon Europe is a very welcome proposal and should be taken up by the Council in the next Multiannual Financial Framework. Moreover, fundamental research must be included in all parts of the programme including the European Innovation Council.
