Summary:

[From Google translate] The value of research

The great passion for scientific research is the driving force that has allowed Fondazione Cariplo to achieve important goals in the last 10 years. In the first part of the project there are ideas, in the first part there are projects and in the first part there is the study. The great passion for scientific research is the engine that has allowed Fondazione Cariplo to reach important goals in the last 10 years: 500 million Euros for over 2,000 projects, from biomedicine to agro-food; more than 2,300 job opportunities activated; 6,030 researchers inserted since 1991. Stories, results and goals of those who bet on this challenge in Lombardy were presented and told yesterday in Milan at the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato.

There are many areas involved: advanced materials, research on industrial biotechnologies and bioeconomy, research for hydrogeological instability, biomedical research, agro-food, social research, support to the formation of human capital. Fondazione Cariplo has distinguished itself for having introduced, often for the first time in Italy, community-based best practices, qualifying with a leading role in the international debate and conveying an avant-garde vision in the Italian research system. Some examples? Patent policy in 2007, publication of the Open Access Policy in 2012, the AGER project - promoted by Fondazione Cariplo in partnership with 16 other partner foundations to support the agri-food industry with 34 million euro - the explicit reference to the principle of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) from 2015, with initiatives to involve and train researchers applying for the calls and participation in the RRI Tools project, funded by the European Commission, to which 26 organizations from 19 countries have adhered between 2014 and 2016. Fondazione Cariplo promotes the internationalisation of universities and has attracted over 60 foreign researchers to Lombardy with a dedicated programme.
