"...Acknowledging the financial difficulties that non-tuition college costs can pose, WCC has been working to expand its offerings of Open Education Resources (OERs) -- free, open-source educational resources that cover the same classroom material found in textbooks....

In the winter 2018 semester alone, WCC offered OERs in 21 different courses as an alternative to purchasing textbooks, saving students $904,946 over purchasing new textbooks. 

WCC Vice President of Instruction Kimberly Hurns said the continued growth of OERs in the classroom has been a collaborative effort between instructors and librarians at the college who are working to develop more opportunities to create textbook alternatives through the use of online resources like OpenStax. ..."
