Summary:

"Linked Open Data Professional Development Workshop, 22 May 2018 10:00-17:00

Venue: CAB International Nosworthy Way,  Wallingford,  Oxfordshire OX10 8DE [Location]

In collaboration with our TiPS (Taxonomies in the Public Sector) colleagues,  ISKO UK plans a new series of workshops on Linked Open Data (LOD). The aim is to help all members of our community enhance their skills and make progress with linked data projects. In time we hope to take the series to diverse regions of the UK, wherever we can find an interested community to set up local arrangements. The first, pilot event will be held in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, thanks to the support of our member CABI. The pilot event includes an afternoon training session especially suited to custodians of a taxonomy, thesaurus or other type of Knowledge Organization System (KOS), who wish to set it up for linked data applications. We're very fortunate to be led by Jen Williams, an experienced ODI-registered trainer who is also a software developer specializing in linked data publishing. She is an open data and linked data evangelist who particularly enjoys demystifying linked data for non-technical people. Outside of her development work, she helps organize ODCamp, a free unconference focusing on all things related to Open Data and also co-organizes Tech4Good Bristol, a meetup group providing free cross-sector peer support to help not-for-profits increase their digital and data literacy. We are grateful also to the Open Data Institute (ODI), whose support enables a cut-price charge for participation. We all hope the programme will interest information and knowledge professionals from the public and private sectors, as well as from research establishments and educational institutions. All are welcome: taxonomy owners/developers, dataset producers, website developers, Semantic Web users/researchers, and even end-users who could exploit LOD. Participants in the (optional) training session should bring their own computers to join in the hands-on practice. The programme you can see below is still under development. You are welcome to contact us with any request or idea for a breakout session during the Development Forum in the first half of the afternoon. ..."
