Open Science is on the way to practice. However, this is not a matter of course; there are still some challenges. Dr. At the opening of this year's Open Science Conference , Georg Schütte, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), emphasized that the open science community must be strategic, fast and relevant enough to move the subject forward. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Kleiner, President of the Leibniz Association, emphasized in his opening speech on the second day that, firstly, open science could help to regain the lost trust of civil society in science and, secondly, that it would be an opportunity to improve the quality of research.

Against this background, the fifth session of the Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0 took place for the second time in Berlin with a mixture of lectures, a panel discussion and a poster session from 13 to 14 March 2018. Among the 200 participants from 35 countries were many actors in the science system, such as researchers, science policy decision-makers and representatives of research infrastructures. As in the previous year, the Open Science Conference was sold out within a few weeks and has thus developed into a central conference on the subject in Europe...."
