At the University of Latvia (LU) Center for Humanities and Social Sciences on May 16 at 10:00. The open license Creative Commons for open science, business and society will be held at 15.00. The event will be live on stream from noon. 15.30

Visiting lecturer Gwen Frank from Belgium will attend the seminar "Open License for Creative Commons - Open Science, Business and Society" organized by UL Library and National Open Access Service. G.Franka will present the benefits of open licenses for the use of Creative Commons in science, education, culture, business and society as a whole. A non-profit organization Creative Commons provides free, easy-to-use legal tools that provide everyone with a simple, standardized opportunity to set usage rights for their creativity (research publications, research data, lab notes, presentations, infographics, video clips, images, etc.). The Creative Commons license provides and helps control the reuse, transformation, and sharing of creative work. The guest lecturer explains the practical application of Creative Commons licenses in science and open business models, introduces the types of licenses, and demonstrates best practices.

The seminar is open to the staff of Latvian universities and research institutes, researchers, doctoral students, entrepreneurs (especially in the field of design), information specialists, library staff.

Guest professor Gwen Franck has gained considerable experience in Creative Commons licenses and open science issues, with active participation in international organizations: Creative Commons, LIBER, Association of European Research Libraries, EIFL - Electronic Information for Libraries, as well as in Open Knowledge Belgium and Creative Commons Belgium (Belgium Creative Community). Also, G. Franco has participated in international projects FP7 Post Grant Open Access Pilot project, OpenAIRE, FOSTER, PASTEUR4OA. Her work at the University of Ghent has provided considerable experience in fostering open science and increased opportunities for engagement in building an open society.
