Summary:

For several years, researchers have been addressing the problem of the costs of scientific communication in the face of increases in costs both for reading and for publishing which are now unsustainable. From 2002 to today there have been initiatives of various kinds, from the three declarations of Bethesda, Budapest and Berlin, to bottom-up initiatives such as “The cost of knowledge” (initiated by a single researcher), to initiatives such as Plan S and transformative contracts. The guiding principle of all these actions is that publicly funded research must be publicly accessible to anyone with an internet connection, to be read, verified, reused.

Among the most interesting initiatives carried out by researchers at very low cost are those connected to arxiv and the so-called overlay journals. These are open access academic journals that publish articles already freely available online. A few years ago Tim Gowers started the arXiv-related series of journals with his Discrete analysis . We receive and gladly publish a new overlay journal experience: Ars Inveniendi Analytica .
