HathiTrust officials win case for fair use of Google books

"Millions of books that Google helped scan and compile are now completely legal to read at libraries throughout the United States due to a court ruling.
Until just recently the legality of a collection of books known as HathiTrust was up in the air. Now all of these books will be available to anyone who would like to read them. It started as a Google partner project with some libraries and expanded into a massive effort involving multiple universities.
The Authors Guild filed a case against them saying that it would damage the value of the work. They had several complaints including copyright claims and security concerns. It is not unreasonable for authors to be concerned with topics like this. At the same time it is easy to see why this could fit under fair use ..."
