SciELO announces open access eBook collection from Brazil | No Shelf Required

"SciELO, a major indexer and publisher of Open Access online journals, announces SciELO Books (http://books.scielo.org), a collection of quality peer-reviewed Open Access and commercial ebooks in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Public Health from selected university presses and other academic publishers in Brazil. The scope of the collection will progressively broaden as university presses and academic publishers from other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean join. Currently there are over 300 ebooks available for download and this number is expected to grow by more than 500 titles per year. SciELO believes in open standards and that users should be free to read on any device, so the ebooks are being made available in ePub and PDF formats with the option to download the whole ebook or just individual PDF chapters. This new ebook operation was launched in March 2012 with three founding members – the presses of the University of the State of São Paulo (UNESP), the Federal University of Bahia (EDUFBA) and Fiocruz in Brazil. The addition of the presses of the State University of Paraíba (EDUEPB), the State University of Londrina (EDUEL) and the Federal University of São Carlos (EDUFSCar) has brought the total to six presses. New presses are continuously being added to the SciELO Books collection. SciELO is partnering with major indexing services and ebook retailers to broaden availability of the SciELO content to the global community.
